Winter Bradley Simpson, II

Of Arlington, Virginia passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and children.  Winter, also affectionately known as Punky and Officer Spanky was a DC Police Officer and Communications Dispatcher for Metro.  His generosity of spirit knew no bounds and he will be remembered by the many people he touched in his 82 years. He was born on October 10, 1934 in Wilmington, DE to Gertrude Fitzgerald Simpson and Winter B. Simpson.  He was the loving husband of 54 years to Maryann Mason Simpson devoted father of Eileen Simpson Shaffer (Ken), Katie Simpson (David Buckley), and Christopher Simpson; cherished grandfather to Conor and Clare Buckley and McKayla and Grace Shaffer.  He is survived by his brothers Robert, George, John and Stephen Simpson.  Visitation will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 5312 10th Street N, Arlington, VA 22205 on Tuesday, August 1 at 10:30am.  Visitation will be followed by a Mass at 11am and luncheon following.  Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.  Online fond memories of Winter may be offered to the family and additional details are available at In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Winter’s memory to the Good Samaritan Fund at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 5312 10th Street N, Arlington, Virginia.

    My prayers and thoughts are with you during this period of loss and what I hope will soon become renewal.

    Having shared years of friendship with Katie, I am grateful for the memories I have of Mr. Simpson. His kindness and warmth would always make me smile, whether at St. Ann’s or at Staples.

    I wish to offer my condolences and sympathy in the passing of Winter Simpson, who I knew as SPANKY, while i was with MPDC. The veteran officers I worked with told me who this particular DISPATCHER was, “Oh, that’s SPANKY”. Over the years I would hear him on the radio doing his job. May the GOD of us all BLESS and COMFORT YOU.
