We are having dinner now and reminiscing about Al Turner. He was a fine man and colleague at the selective service system. His humor and warm smile will be missed.

I was deeply saddened at hearing of the passing of my boyhood friend Alfred. We grew up about a block away from each other on Preston Street in Rockford, Illinois. Alfred, Herbert and I walked to school, or at least we saw each other virtually every day while attending elementary school at Lincoln Park and William Dennis Schools on the West End. We attended Boy Scouts together. We went to Bible school and church at Providence MBC. Our paths diverged as we grew and became adults. But, my heart is heavy. My condolences are extended to DeArmond and Teresa and to Alfred’s family.

Al and I were close friends having served in the Army in the Republic of Korea together and having maintained communication with one another over the years. I am deeply saddened by his passing. My condolences and great sympathies are extended to his family and especially to his sisters De and Teresa.
