Thomas Wayne Allen, Jr.

Thomas Wayne Allen, Jr. passed away in Fairfax, Virginia on Saturday, March 2nd, 2019 following surgery. His wife of 26 years, Emily, was by his side.

Tom was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on September 22, 1955 to Thomas, Sr and Hazel (McBroom) Allen. Tom grew up in Decatur, Alabama alongside his two younger brothers, Chris and Donnie.

Anyone who knew Tom knew of his love of the sea. Tom was never more happy then when he was near the beach or sailing on the ocean. After graduating from Austin High School in Decatur, Tom started his life of adventure by joining the Coast Guard and his love of boats and being on the water defined much of his life and career from that point forward. His career as a boat captain and vessel master took him from the Coast Guard to AUTEC on Andros Island, Bahamas, and then to the marine services industry in the Gulf of Mexico.

Throughout his life, Tom loved to travel and explore the world – particularly to places that allowed him to enjoy his love of golf, skiing, hiking, and scuba diving.

Tom is survived and will be deeply missed by a loving family including his wife, Emily; mother, Hazel and brothers Chris and Donnie (sister-in-law Deborah) and two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Sr.

Celebrations of Tom’s life will be held on future dates. Because of Tom’s love of the ocean and scuba diving, in lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the Coral Reef Alliance (www.coral.org) in his memory to ensure our reefs are there for future generations to enjoy.

Emily, you are in my thoughts, and I know that there are no words that truly encapsulate the magnitude of what you are currently feeling. So, I send you strength to get through the rapid fire of one hundred immediate decisions, as well as the deafening calm of what follows, for what seems an eternity.
