Owen A. Powell

Mr. Owen Anthony Powell, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Born in Manchester, Jamaica on October 30, 1959, Owen was the 4th of 9 children, born to the late Donald and Melva Powell. He grew up in Jamaica and began farming to help take care of the family.

Owen first entered the United States in 2003 to work as a laborer. He had a great work ethic and was liked by everyone who knew him. If anyone knew Owen they knew he LOVED to eat and could eat a full pot of peas and rice or spaghetti with meat sauce. Mr. Powell enjoyed playing his numbers and buying scratch-offs at the local 7-Eleven store but not before stopping off at Popeye’s. 

One summer day in 2005 Owen was at the bus stop and saw a vision of beauty. He helped this lovely woman off the bus and to her front door. Owen fell in love and on July 12, 2007, he married Christina Jack of Trinidad & Tobago. 

Owen is survived by his spouse, Christina, daughters, Sherma and Rita, grandchildren, Antonia (Tony), David and Christopher (Ashley), great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Sean, Sidni, Joshua, Justice, Kirsten and King, siblings, Michael, Howard, Sharon, Desmond, Errol, Roy, Shelly and Wayne, cousin Lena, sister-in-laws, Marie and Emrie, friends, Hollis, Brother Henry, Brother Thomas, Eve, Monica, Rosa and Robert Ganz.

Funeral Arrangements:  Family will receive visitors and friends on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  A Viewing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Funeral Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Advent Funeral & Cremation Services, 9013 Annapolis Road, Lanham, MD 20706.

The family wishes to acknowledge with sincere thanks and appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers and many other expressions of kindness and concern extended during this difficult time.  Your kindness will not be forgotten.  To God Be the Glory!
