Mamie Irene Williams

“Miss Mae”

Mamie Irene Williams was born in Northumberland County, Virginia on March 21, 1937 and died in Laurel, Maryland on August 16, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She attended Virginia State University and was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She worked for the Department of Defense then became a teacher in the District of Columbia School system. Her pride and joy was her only son Eric. While a single parent to Eric, she obtained her Master’s Degree and always encouraged her son to achieve his academic goals and to overlook the short-comings of others. She was highly intelligent, an avid reader and loved solving puzzles. She rarely, if ever, spoke an unkind word to those who were very unkind to her and was well loved to many as “Miss Mae”. She is predeceased in death by her parents, James and Garnett Williams, brothers James Jr, and Harold, and sisters Gladys and Jean. She is survived by her son, Eric, and his wife, five sisters, Rolene, Gloria, Doris, Shryle, one brother, Clyde, her Aunt Ruth Levere, and numerous nieces and nephews.
