Hannelore Anni Jones

Hannelore Anni Jones of Falls Church, VA, passed away peacefully at Inova Fairfax Hospital on February 13, 2018. She was born in Hamburg, Germany, on September 27, 1939, to the late William E. and Anna M. Jurkschat. She graduated from business college in Hamburg in 1958 and, after an apprenticeship, she worked as a paralegal in several law offices and banks in Germany for many years. She arrived in the United States in 1963 aboard a ship in New York harbor to pursue the American Dream. She worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army and teller for Riggs Bank before beginning a career as an office manager for German Public Radio in Washington, DC, for 26 years. During her career, she managed German press coverage for many Republican and Democratic National Conventions. After she retired in 2005, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling and volunteering. She married Col. Malachi B. Jones, Sr., (now deceased) in 1968. After his U.S. Army postings in South Korea and Germany, they settled in New Carrollton, MD, where they raised their two children, Malachi Jr. and Tanya. She was proudly naturalized as a U.S. citizen. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ingrid Filipski, of Bad Schwartau, Germany. She is survived by her loving children Malachi B. Jones Jr. (Abigail) and Tanya A. Jones; grandsons Lucas and Carter Jones; brother Fred Jurkschat (Ilka); devoted nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 am at Advent Funeral Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22046.
