Cremation vs Burial

The Choices Are Yours To Make

There are many differences between a traditional burial and cremation and there are a number of variables to consider when deciding between them. The most important thing to remember is that you have a choice.

Today, about half of the families in the Washington area choose burial while the other half chooses cremation. This is a choice beyond type of service – It is solely a choice of disposition. Many people become confused when choosing burial versus cremation – believing the first necessitates a service while the later precludes one.

In fact, you may choose to have no service or visitation with a burial (commonly known as an Immediate Burial) or to hold a funeral service with a cremation. Some choose burial because it is a more environmentally sensitive alternative to cremation; others prefer cremation because of its expediency. The costs of both choices are comparable.

Another option is green burial – which is both eco-friendly and cost-efficient. A relatively new trend in the U.S., green burials involve using biodegradable caskets and urns. The burial site remains as natural as possible, therefore promoting the return of the body to the earth.

We are happy to arrange very simple receptions, grand receptions, and anything in between. With photos provided by the family, we can also create a digital slide show to be shown on a large screen. Just about anything is possible. We’re here to help.

At Advent we believe that the more you know, the better for you and the better for us. And no matter which method you chose, our costs depend on your needs, not ours.
