William John Colwell, Jr., age 48, passed away on July 15 after a valiant battle with cancer. Son of the late William Colwell and Barbara Daniels Colwell, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Robin Curry Colwell, 12-year-old twin daughters Anna and Lauren, his brother and sister-in-law, Harry Daniels Colwell and Clarisse Colwell, his grandmother, Norma Daniels and a large extended family.
Bill was Assistant General Counsel and Corporate Director of the Northrop Grumman Corporation. Prior to that, he was employed at The Boeing Company and Wiley, Rein & Fielding LLP. He served in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine officer on the USS Hampton, where he was recognized with numerous awards.
A nationally recognized expert in government contracts, Bill frequently spoke and published on procurement issues. He served on the Board of the Federal Circuit Bar Association, chaired the Legal Committee of the National Defense Industrial Association, and recently received the 2018 NDIA Howard H. Cork Memorial Award for exceptional service to NDIA and the defense industry. He belonged to the Army and Navy Club of Washington, DC, and served as chair of its program committee for a number of years.
A resident of McLean, VA, he was a graduate of Regis High School in New York City, Northwestern University (cum laude), and Duke University School of Law (cum laude), where he received an award for outstanding achievement in Intellectual Property and Technology Law.
There will be a funeral mass in celebration of his life on Friday, July 20 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Beloved in McLean, followed by a reception at the Columbus Club of Arlington. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that those who choose to make a contribution donate in his honor to Regis High School, 55 E. 84th St., NY, NY 10028.
There will be a private burial at Arlington National Ceremony at a later date.
