Martha Ann Boyd


Of Alexandria, VA passed away on 13 August 2018 with family and friends by her side. She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Bob Boyd, her son Ben Jones of Colorado Springs, daughter Amy Jones of Herndon, VA, stepdaughter Ellen Boyd of New Castle, PA, stepdaughter Christine Miller (Michael) of Boulder Creek, CA, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her sister Angie Robertson (Jack) of Columbia, SC in 2011. Martha Ann was born to B. Thomas Morgan and his wife Louise P. Burnett on 11 August 1934 in Lynchburg, VA. She graduated from E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and in 1956 graduated from James Madison University with a B.S. in Education. She taught elementary school in Alexandria before taking time to raise her family. In 1975, Martha Ann returned to work in marketing and sales, retiring in 1996. She was a Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League and leaves behind many friends in local bridge clubs. The funeral will be Saturday, 1 September, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew and St. Margaret Church, at the corner of East Monroe Ave. and Dewitt Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301. A reception will follow. There will be a private interment later at Arlington National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be sent in care of the church to its parish office on 1607 Dewitt Ave., Alexandria, VA 22301 with “Charity & Mercy” on the memo line of the check. All donations will be used to help the poor and disadvantaged in our area and elsewhere.
