Joan Pinther Shows

Joan Pinther Shows passed away on October 21, 2017 at age 84 in Springfield, VA. She was born December 12, 1932 in Nampa, ID to Irene and Alfred Pinther. Joan left Idaho at age 18 to attend McPherson College, in McPherson, KS. She graduated with a teaching degree which she used for nearly 4 decades teaching school in Fairfax County. She later completed a Masters Degree in Guidance & Counseling from Va Tech. In addition to teaching, Joan had many friends and interests. She was a devoted member of Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO, AAUW and Unity of Fairfax. Joan’s eclectic collection of giraffes was admired by everyone. Her second husband, Webber Shows preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Alfreda Batdorff (Jim). She will be missed by her four children: Rebecca Jacobs (Loren), Kathryn Kerchof (Brad), Stephen Keim (Cathy) and James Keim (Kira); and her 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. On November 19th, there will be a celebration of Joan’s life at Unity of Fairfax, 2854 Hunter Mill Rd, Oakton, VA. In lieu of flowers, Joan has asked that you give to an organization that promotes progressive causes.
