Gemma Hermley

Gemma Hermley, born June 20th, 1946—left us suddenly on March 7th, 2018. Gemma will be met by her mother, father, and sister—all of whom are probably waiting for her with a huge bucket of pennies in front of a slot machine.
Gemma, or “Gem” was a woman of very few words. Gemma had pride in everything she did. She worked for the Department of Commerce and Costco for two decades. She loved going to Washington D.C., and showing her kids which building she worked at. She also bragged about Costco having the best prices, and told everyone who happened to be wearing Costco clothing the price of their outfit.
Gemma hated small talk, and epitomized the saying “what you see is what you get.” Gemma was genuine and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She was stubborn and lived her life as she wanted. A great side note, she loved Bruno Mars and was quoted saying “Bruno is the best entertainer there is!!” enthusiastically.
Gemma leaves behind her sister who is her best friend and confidant—Lydia Perian. She also leaves behind four children; Agnes Rodriguez, Lydia Rodriguez, Aimee Rodriguez, and Emma Lee Manatad, and nine grandchildren.
Gemma will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held at:
Advent Funeral & Cremation Services
7211 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA 22046
On Thursday, March 15th at 5:00pm, prayers to start at 5:30 pm.

I met your mother working at the Department of Commerce in 2015, while working in the Under Secretary’s office. When I met her, I was like who is this lady! She meant business that is for sure! But, once I have grown to know her, she was a joy to talk to. Definitely a hard worker and definitely a small talker! 🙂 I will definitely miss her and will continue to keep you and your entire family and friends in my prayers.
