Gary W. Lewis

Gary Wilbur Lewis (77) passed away October 27, 2017 surrounded by his wife and daughters. Gary was born February 6, 1940 in Howard, Kansas to Gladys Marie Wegand Lewis and Wilbur Byron Lewis. Gary graduated from Alden Central High School in Alden, NY June 1960 and then served in the Marine Corp. from June 1960 to June 1966 and was stationed in various bases along the Atlantic coast where in 1962 met his future bride, Jean. They married in August 1964. After being honorably discharged he worked as an accounting clerk for the treasury department of Arlington County. He then worked for Western Extermination Co. and drove a cab while putting himself through Columbia Techs’ Architectural Drafting program. He began his career as an architectural draftsman in January 1969 until he retired in 2004. He loved to read science fiction, civil war history, and study his bibles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and all his grandchildren. He was a skilled carver creating beautiful pieces of work. He became president of the carving group that he belonged to for several years. He was preceded in death by his mother Gladys M. Lewis, father Wilbur B. Lewis, and just this past August, his brother Elbin Lewis.

He leaves behind his wife of 53 years Jean Mess Lewis, daughters Kimberly Lewis Proctor (Quentin), Sharon Lewis Roccograndi, Christine Lewis Chambers (Joseph), sister Sandra Lewis Earle (Thomas), brother Earl Neal Lewis, thirteen grandchildren: Marc A. L. Proctor, Nicole A. Roccograndi, Dionysius M. Proctor, Mason M. Roccograndi, Katelynn M. Watkins; Cecelia Barnett, Lacee A. Watkins, Alyssa M. Proctor, Gary F. Barnett, Virginia Chambers, Nicholas M. Proctor, Dakoda Chambers, Karaline Chambers, and numerous other family members.
Son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, granpoo, pop-pop, uncle, cousin, and friend; was loved by all and will be truly missed.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Advent Funeral and Cremation Chapel from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church, 103 N. Spring St., Falls Church, Virginia, on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 am, with the interment to follow at Fairfax Memorial Park 9900 Braddock Rd.
