Fern “Snooki” Alberta Yonce (nee Tanner)

Fern “Snooki” Alberta Yonce (nee Tanner) was born in Sharon, PA, on February 25, 1933, to Dorothy and Moran “Chook” Tanner. She was followed by four boys—Moran III “Sonny,” Tom (both deceased), Jimmy, and Rick. After graduating high school, she went to Hannah Harrison Secretarial School in Washington, DC. She met Phillip Alvin Yonce while in DC and they married in 1952. She was tragically widowed in 1969. She spent most of her life in Northern Virginia.

Fern had six children—Linda (Craig), Kathy (Dave), Shirley (Doug), the late Judy (Charlie), Phillip, and Richard (Julie).

She held numerous secretarial jobs ranging from a medical center to General Dynamics. She also had worked as a dispatcher and Jane-of-all-Trades at Beltway Trucking. She enjoyed bowling and painting as hobbies. But mostly she was a mom.

Fern was blessed with eight grandchildren—David, Gene, Phil, Joshua, Robert, Melissa, Nathan, and Wyatt and three great- grandchildren—Charlie, Madelyn, and Braden.

She was dealt some very difficult hands during her lifetime but met each and every one with kindness and grace. She passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2018, with her surviving daughters at her bedside.

Fern’s amazing humor and positive attitude will be sorely missed! She will live on in our memories.

Memorial services for Fern will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3rd, at Advent Funeral & Cremation Services, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22046.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

A private family internment will follow.
