One Saturday morning in 1993, at her house in Springfield, Virginia, Melanie Wilhelm Dunaway, Advent's founder and Director, developed the mission of Advent. Melanie picked the name "Advent" from the dictionary — it means new beginning.

Melanie, the third generation of the Wilhelm family to serve in the funeral business, sold her house and used the money to open Advent's first facility in Annapolis, Maryland. Two years later, another location was opened in Falls Church, Virginia.
Advent's philosophy is simple. That's it — simple.
We concentrate on the simpler services preferred today — whether they be cremation or burial. And because we're good at what we do, we're able to hold our prices to about half of what the other funeral homes charge.
We offer you facts, truth and honest advice in a straight-forward, no-pressure way. We hope that if you have a need for funeral or cremation services, you will consider Advent.
